First Day Collections: Sachin - A Billion Dreams Starts Impressively; Earns Rs 8.40 Cr At The Box-Office

Sachin Tendulkar is not addressed as GOD in India without a reason. The man has the power to make a docu-drama the talk of the town. The film on his life, Sachin - A Billion Dreams has opened well at the box-office and moved on to earn Rs 8.40 cr on Day 1.

Trade Expert Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to announce the figures a while back. Taran said: "Considering it's a docu-drama, #SachinABillionDreams opens IMPRESSIVELY... Fri ₹ 8.40 cr. India biz [Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, English] (sic)."

Well, being a docu-drama, a figure of this magnitude is surely high for Sachin - A Billion Dreams. Also, the film is expected to earn even more through the weekend.

Last afternoon, we got in touch with Trade Expert Akshaye Rathi who had said, “This film is about a man who has brought millions of people from diverse religions, castes and regions together to cheer for him. We shouldn’t analyze this film as a commercial film. Despite being a documentary, the audience flocked to the theatres. People were pre-booking for the film. Today it has opened with a decent number, but Saturday - Sunday it’s going to be better. Overall the film is performing extremely well.”

What about comparisons with last year’s cricket biopic MS Dhoni: The Untold Story?

“MS Dhoni was a mainstream commercial film. But Sachin: A Billion Dreams is a docu-drama. But it has that deep connect with the people,” said Akshaye.

So, will Sachin - A Billion Dreams have the potential to join the 100 crore club?

“It certainly has the potential as Sachin has that kind of fanatic fan following. But let’s not analyze it with numbers as it’s a tribute to a living legend.”

Well, as Rathi said- it’s a tribute and now supported by good numbers, we’re sure Tendulkar is smiling!
